How To Find RS232 Port Of Set Top Box When Its not Available on Rear Panel ?

So when you will open the set top box cover then you will find its PCB (Printed Circuit Borad) Plate.
Now you need to find out 3 PIN Connector inside it. Which can be like this as shown in the image below,

How Many Types Of RS232 Connectors Can Be On STBs & What Are Supported Cable For Them ?
There can be various type of serial connectors inside and outside of stbs. We are covering all of them below in this article,
(1) On Body 9 PIN Serial Port Male
As shown above in the image there is 9 PIN Male RS232 serial port. Which is used to download or upload the software in the stb. It is available on the rear panel of stb.

Which RS232 Cable Will Support For This Type Of Port ?
In this case if you want to upload or download the software or release in stb then you need to use following two cables,
(A) RS232 To RS232 Female
(B) RS232 To USB Cable
Where,
first cable will convert your RS232 Male connector into RS232 Female Connector.
Then second cable will convert your RS232 Female Connector into USB Cable (This Cable Require Its own Driver CD). So that you can plug in this USB cable into your laptop.
After that you need install the software in your laptop to download the software in receiver.
NOTE : Second Cable which is Male RS232 to USB will require its own cable driver CD to install.
(2) On Body 9 PIN Serial Port Female
As shown above in the image this is Terristrial Receiver. It is having RS232 9 PIN Female Serial Port.

Which RS232 Cable Will Support For This Type Of Port ?
Here in this case you need to use RS232 9 PIN Male to USB Cable for downloading or uploading the software in this receiver. The Cable is give below,
(3) On Body 3 PIN Serial Port
This type of the PIN found on the body ( rear panel or front panel or side ) of the stb or a satellite receiver. Which is shown above in the image.
So there are three Standard RS232 Male PINs available on the rear panel of stb.

In this case you can use following two types of cables,
(A) 3 PIN RS232 female to RS232 Female Connector Cable
(B) 3 PIN RS232 female to RS232 Male Connector Cable

(4) On Body 3.5mm Connector To Serial Port Female
As shown above in the photo this is 3.5mm stereo RS232 jack for software download in set top box. This is smart jack comes in android set top boxes like Wezone M8 Set Top Box.

Which RS232 Cable Will Support For This Type Of Port ?
It will support male three pole 3.5mm jack stereo connector cable to RS232 Female port. Which is shown below in the image,
(5) On Board 3 Mini PIN Serial Port
As shown above in the image after opening the stb we found a white color connector. Which is called the 3 Mini PIN RS232 Serial Port. This connector can also be in cream color.

Which RS232 Cable Will Support For This Type Of Port ?
In this case you need to use small pin serial connector cable. Which we can called as 3 Mini PIN RS232 Serial Port Female Connector Cable.
So there are two types of cables which you can use.
(A) 3 Mini PIN RS232 Serial Port Female Connector Cable
(B) 3 Mini PIN RS232 Serial Port Male Connector Cable
Thus Both Male and Female cables are supported. It is up to you which one you want to use. If you are using male cable then you need to also use Female to Female cable.
(6) On Board 4 Mini PIN Serial Port
When you open the stb or satellite receiver then on the PCB plate you will found this connector. This is called the 4 Mini PIN RS232 Serial Port Connector.

As we have seen in the image there is white color 3 pin mini connector. Which can be creamy in color.
It can support two types of cables mentioned below,
(A) 4 Mini PIN RS232 Female Serial Connector Cable
(B) 4 Mini PIN RS232 Male Serial Connector Cable
It is up to you which one you want to use Male or Female cable. In case you are using male cable then you need to also use Female to Female serial cable for it.
(7) On Board 3 Dots Serial Port
Some types of STBs and satellite receivers have only 4 dots of RS232 serial port. There are not any kind of PINs available on this port.
You need to soldier only three cables in a particular format. Other side of this cable’s connector is RS232 9 PIN Female connector.

You need to use RS232 DB9 Female to free end connector cable. Where these free ends of this cable you need to soldier on PCB as shown below,
