What Is Live IP Or Static IP
Live IP is a IP address that is used to access the machine via the internet. These machine can be server or clients. These servers can be Windows Base or CentOS Base. A static IP means that this IP will never change.
Thus a live IP is provided by the ISP Internet Service Provider. If you will have a high data rate internet connection from ISP than they can provide one or two Live IPs free of cost.
You need to ask your ISP to provide you a Live IP. For this Live IP he will charge yearly. But the charges are not so high. We can afford easily. These charges can be near about 2000 INR for one year.
Need Of Live IP For Digital Headend
Live IP is a basic requirement for servers. These servers can be used for different medium.
In digital headend there are many servers installed. These servers runs 24*7. We need a local headend engineer to run these servers properly. This headend engineer is responsible to do the maintenance of servers time to time.
For example,
if a headend engineer found a problem in QAM. He is not enough to resolve this issue. Then he can do one thing that he can give the access to product specialist of QAM. The product specialist lives in different country. The product specialist will connect to the internet and enters the Live IP in his system to get access. He need to enter the credentials to connect. By entering the proper credentials he will now connected to our client because we have configured the Live IP in our client threw which QAM is connected.
Then he will resolve the issue and sign out.
So there are many kind of server installed in the digital headed for which we need to give the access to others. These servers can be
CAS Server
PSI SI Server
SMS Server

How To Configure Live IP
There are two ways to configure Live IP
(1) Dedicated IP To Server
(2) Port Forwarding To Servers
(1) Dedicated IP To Server
If we need to give the access of only one server then this method is easy to use. In this method we need to dedicate a Live IP for a particular server. A LAN cable from ISP we have to put inside our local switch. From this local switch output goes into the different servers. If there are Two Live IPs then both the servers can be connect from one switch. Thus we need to configure two different Live IPs into two different servers.
Your ISP will provide you 5 things for Live IP mentioned below in *
So you need to enter these 5 things IP Address , Subnet Mask , Default Gateway , DNS 1 , DNS 2
in the (TCP/IPV4) properties of your Ethernet port. After entering these values click OK. Now check in your server internet is connected.
Now check in the other PC connected to internet. Open the remote desktop connection and enter the Live IP.
Thus in this way one Live IP is dedicated to the one server. We called it dedicate IP to server.
In this method one Live IP is dedicated to one server. It means if we are having 5 server then we need to have 5 different Live IPs for each server. This is expensive process. There is one more method to reduce the cost known as port forwarding to servers mentioned below.
(2) Port Forwarding To Servers
We can use Port Forwarding method to access 10 servers from one Live IP. So this process is inexpensive and very useful for us. We need to have one local router to do the port forwarding. The LAN cable which we get from ISP we need to put inside our local router. Rest RJ-45 are the outputs which goes into the different servers.
We need to configure the one Static IP into our Local Router. Then we allocate 10 different port for this Live IP. In which each port is configured for a particular local client IP.When a request is made from outside for a particular port then local router redirect the request on that particular port for which request was made. These ports can be like 50001,50002,50003,50004…etc.
Keep in mind one thing that these IP Address,
11.111.111.111:50001
11.111.111.111.:50002
11.111.111.111:50003
11.111.111.111:50004
are configured in Local Router only. Thus these IPs allocated for Client PC , SMS Server , CAS Server And PSI Server respectively.
If any authorized person want to get the access of the CAS server then he need to connect the internet. Then he need to open the Remote Desktop Connection. Then he need to put the IP 11.111.111.111:50003 that is mentioned below,
Then he need enter the administrator password of CAS server to get the access.
Lets Have a Example Of Configured Router
As shown above in the screen shots we have configured 5 local IPs for port forwarding .As show in the table 3389 port is a internal port which is responsible for Remote Desktop Connection. The static ip is already configured for this router for example we take static ip as 11.111.111.111
Now threw internet if any authorized person want to get access of CAS Server then he needs to put these IPs into the Remote Desktop Port,
After entering the static IP of router with : port number of CAS Server. The request will go to router. Then router will look for the local IP for port 50005 that is 192.168.2.5
Now this request will forward to CAS Server because its ip is 192.168.2.5:50005 . Now user will enter the username and password for the CAS server machine and he can now do his work.
Above in the figure shows the functioning of static ip. Router got the request 11.111.111.111:50005 then router analyse the request and found in its configuration that port number 50005 is for local ip 192.168.2.5:50005 the forward the request to the CAS Server which is already configured on this local ip. You can also do the MAC binding for port forwarding to the clients. In MAC binding system a MAC is binedad with a specific local ip.
